Piano di Sorrento, Domenico Cinque: “Giuspatronato do it yourself? No thank you….”
Piano di Sorrento. Domenico Cinque returns to talk on his blog about the hot and current topic of Giuspatronato commenting on a speech by the Carottese journalist of the “Fatto Quotidiano” Fabrizio d’Esposito which proposes a sort of “symbolic” vote to elect the new parish priest with the installation of a gazebo outside the Basilica of San Michele Arcangelo: «On Agorà today I am reading an interesting interview with Fabrizio d’Esposito on the subject of Giuspatronato which is largely acceptable if not for the final idea. I can only share that the silence of our Bishop is arrogant and disrespectful also because, unlike those who have embraced the cause in recent months, I have been saying these things for 16 years. However, the proposed solution seems to me to be somewhat false and counterproductive. In fact, a kind of election do it yourself with gazebos placed outside the Basilica proposing a trio of names including the outgoing parish administrator. The idea, if realized and if it had a massive participation, which I do not doubt given the possible presence in the triad of Don Pasquale, would certainly be a symbolic gesture of enormous importance but equally huge would be his uselessness as well as his harmfulness for the cause that many of us care about. Faced with a reckless gesture like this, the diocese would certainly raise not a wall but a real fortress and would be the real tomb for our secular right. Furthermore, it is not clear who would be the other two prelates to be included in the triad destined to act as sacrificial victims, then I wonder if these two unfortunates should give their consent to be included in such a farce that would only lead to useless humiliation for them. I do not even imagine if the organizers of this symbolic gesture then thought of inserting the name of the incoming parish administrator in the triad…. it would be a huge disaster for our parish!
I sincerely hope that this project is just a provocation and I believe that the right way to try is the one proposed in the meeting in the Basilica by Prior Michele Gargiulo. The proposal to recognize the right of Giuspatronato as a cultural heritage of the community must be brought to the City Council and from there to start for even higher awards at regional, national and, why not, international level. If you do not find a councilor who acts as an interlocutor for this initiative, the Municipal Statute provides for the possibility for citizens to propose it to the municipal council, collecting at least 700 signatures on the proposal. If you really want to carry out a symbolic act of enormous value, put the gazebos outside the basilica but not for a vote worthy of the best Italian comedy films but to collect the signatures necessary to bring the proposal to the attention of our City Council , do it in every church in Piano and I’m sure the signatures will arrive! ».
