Positano celebrates Santa Margherita with the restored statue: today a great celebration and blessing of pregnant women. Today, Wednesday 20 July 2022, the Church commemorates the virgin and martyr Margherita, venerated in the church dedicated to her in the Fornillo district of Positano, the pearl of the Amalfi Coast.
Born into a pagan family, she was entrusted by her father to a Christian nurse: Margherita, attracted by the teachings of the Gospel, received baptism without her father’s knowledge. In that period, in fact, the persecution of Christians by the emperor Diocletian broke out. Margherita, being a Christian, after refusing to marry General Olibrio, after various tortures she was beheaded.
Legend has it that when Margaret was in prison, the devil appeared in the form of a dragon and swallowed her, but she, armed with the sign of the cross, tore open the belly of the dragon and came out unscathed. From this event Margherita is invoked by expectant women to ask for the grace of a happy birth and the health of her unborn child.
And precisely for this reason, on the occasion of the Feast of Santa Margherita, today at 19.00 there will be the blessing of pregnant women. All those who are pregnant are invited to take part, to ask the Saint for the grace of a sweet birth and the health of the unborn child.
Meanwhile, the statue of Santa Margherita has returned to the church after the restoration.
