Piano di Sorrento celebrates Santa Maria delle Grazie: the statue of the Madonna of Marina di Cassano with the boat and the sailors in Piazza Cota. Today, Sunday 3 July, after two years of hiatus caused by the pandemic, the procession of the Madonna delle Grazie in Marina di Cassano has returned to travel the city streets.
One of the most awaited moments was that of the stop of the statue of Santa Maria delle Grazie of the Marina di Cassano in Piazza Cota, a moment of community and a blessing to the city. Unfortunately, however, this year, again due to Covid, the procession route did not include stops. For this reason, no altar was set up and the Marian statue, therefore, simply passed through the square and the streets of the city.
“This painful decision is a way to better guarantee the passage to the square and try, as far as possible, to avoid further opportunities for gathering”, had made known Michele Gargiulo, Prior of the Archconfraternity of Death and Prayer.
Waiting for a complete return to traditions, however, the statue of the Madonna has returned to cheer the morning of all the Carottesi who took to the street or overlooking the balconies to finally admire the procession.
